The author engages a reader by using the repetition of initial consonant sounds in a sentence.
The author engages a reader by using an event or place that is familiar.
The author engages the reader by describing something as though it were something else.
The author engages the reader by pointing out similar qualities between two unlike things.
I say this because allusion is when the author takes an event from the past to make something understandable or help the reader understand what is going through the author's head.
