A scale factor is the ratio between corresponding measurements of an object and a representation of that object.

The scale factor can be two types:

Larger to Smaller

or,

Smaller to Larger

In the figure, the larger side is given 28 and its corresponding smaller side is 14. So,

• Scale Factor, (Large to Small) = 28/14 = 2 : 1 [,two, is to ,one,]

,

• Scale Factor, (Small to Large) = 14/28 = 1 : 2 [,one, is to ,two,]

Now, let's find the side length 'n'. Another side (large) is given as "12". So, it's corresponding smaller side will be half of it!

Thus,

[tex]12\times\frac{1}{2}=6[/tex]

We can also find 'n' using ratio set up:

[tex]\begin{gathered} \frac{28}{14}=\frac{12}{n} \\ 28n=14\times12 \\ 28n=168 \\ n=\frac{168}{28} \\ n=6 \end{gathered}[/tex]
