According to Newton's second law the force is equivalent to the change in momentum:

[tex]F=\frac{m\Delta v}{\Delta t}[/tex]

Multiplying by the change in time:

[tex]F\Delta t=m\Delta v[/tex]

Therefore, the greater the change in velocity the greater the force. Therefore, to punch harder there must by a great change in velocity and therefore a greater acceleration.
