It was called Operation Overlord and it was led by Dwight Eisenhower. It was composed of troops from America, Britain, Canada and Free-French forces. The codename given for the amphibious landing was called D-Day where they assaulted the beachheads that was guarded by the Germans. Americans suffered the most in their assault on Omaha Beach.
